Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to technologies that enable machines to perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence - such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving. This includes areas like machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics, which allow systems to analyze vast datasets, identify patterns, and make informed decisions.

As AI reshapes industries and daily life, it brings significant ethical, legal, and societal challenges, particularly concerning privacy, accountability, and bias. At the Law and Internet Foundation, we focus on ensuring that legal and regulatory frameworks keep pace with AI's rapid development.

Even though AI is a relatively new field in innovation, at the Law and Internet Foundation we have rapidly adapted our expertise and started working on international projects implementing AI technologies. Such projects are:

  • ALLIES -AI-based framework for supporting micro (and small) HSPs on the report and removaL of onLIne tErroriSt content (2023-2025) - The project aimed at using an AI-based framework to support micro (and small) Hosting Server Providers (HSPs) in achieving compliance with the new rules under the Regulation 2021/784 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2021 on addressing the dissemination of terrorist content online also known as the Terrorism Content Online Regulation (TCO Regulation).
  • MaaSAI -Agile Manufacturing as a Service through AI Autonomous Agents (2024-2027) - It represents a transformative initiative aimed at redefining the manufacturing ecosystem through a comprehensive digital system that automates and optimizes collaboration between manufacturing system providers and consumers.

In summary, at the Law and Internet Foundation we are dedicated to bridging cutting-edge AI technologies with strong legal and ethical standards by taking part in innovative projects. We are committed to creating a future in which human rights and innovation coexist as AI develops, making sure that AI benefits society in a way that is responsible, ethical, safe and aligned with democratic values.
