We are pleased to invite you to participate in the International Social Networking Summit that is being held in Göttingen, Germany on 5-6 July 2011 organised by the CONSENT consortium.

This Social Networking Summit is intended to enable stakeholders to participate and contribute to the policy-preparation process and to the recommendations to the European Commission and the European Parliament regarding consumer sentiment and privacy in on-line situations. Keynote Speakers at this International Social Networking Summit will be able to present the perspectives of their own organisation as well as possibly contributing to the policy brief to the European Commission that will be one of the outputs of this “Summit”.

Issues to be discussed at the Summit include:
• What types of privacy policies and best practices are being used internationally?
• To what extent do these meet European privacy and data protection standards?
• What input should service providers and other stakeholders be giving to policy makers in Strasbourg & Brussels?

We are inviting a large number of leading social network and other on-line service providers from all around the world to attend the Summit. They will be joined by other stakeholders such as NGOs, digital and civil rights organisations and Data Protection Authorities together with officials from the European Commission.

We trust that the dialogue created during this Summit will enrich the debate and provide valuable insights for the policy briefs to be produced by for the European Commission and other international entities.
