On behalf of the DATAMITE project, the IT Innovation Center of OTE Group in Athens hosted a “DATAMITE Meetup 2025” on 06/02/2025. The event served as a vibrant platform to bring together researchers and industry professionals involved in EU-funded projects for insightful discussions, networking, and collaboration.  

Polina Petrova – Legal Expert at Law and Internet Foundation – moderated the panel on “Privacy and Security in the Age of Data – Finding a Balance through Legal and Ethical Challenges”.

The following experts formed the Panel: Ms. Eleni Geroutsi – a Lawyer and DPO at OTE Group; Dr. Evangelia Vagena – Senior Director of Compliance at ORFIUM and Vice President of the Hellenic Association of Data Protection & Privacy; Dr. Vasilis Tountopoulous – ICT Business Innovation Director at AEGIS IT RESEARCH GmbH; Prof. Constantinos Patsakis – an associate professor at the Department of Informatics, University of Piraeus and adjunct researcher at the Institute for the Management of Information Systems (IMIS) of Athena Research and Innovation Centre.

The Panel deep dived into the inherent tension between data monetization and user privacy, focusing on ways to balance revenue generation with respect for user rights. The Panel examined the complex legal and ethical issues surrounding data governance, focusing on how companies may navigate regulations, maintain compliance, and make ethically sound data choices.
