On May 22, 2025, the Law and Internet Foundation had the honor of attending the roundtable discussion "Protecting Children from Online Violence," organized by the National Center for Safer Internet as part of the "Digital Children" initiative. The event took place in the conference hall of the Crystal Palace Hotel in Sofia and brought together representatives from the civil sector, institutions, parents, and young people for a constructive dialogue focused on building a safer digital environment for children in Bulgaria.
The forum served as a valuable platform for presenting the results of the educational and informational activities of the consortium administering the Center - the "Parents" Association, the National Network for Children, and the Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health. Particularly impactful were the informational videos featuring real stories of children who had experienced online violence - a highly valuable resource for raising public awareness and sensitivity around the issue.
As part of the event, a special discussion panel was held, dedicated to the future and sustainability of the platform safenet.bg, which has played a key role in the field of online child safety in Bulgaria for the past twenty years. During the discussion, all participants had the opportunity to address current challenges and formulate specific policy and legislative proposals aimed at ensuring effective protection for children in the digital space.
Initiatives like this are essential for building a responsible, informed, and supportive community amid the growing digitalization of society.
