What is the purpose of the regulation?
It establishes uniform rules for issuers of crypto-assets , which have not been regulated by other European Union (EU) acts in the field of financial services until now, and for service providers related to such crypto-assets (crypto-asset service providers ).
The rules cover:
- transparency and disclosure requirements for the issuance, public offering and admission of cryptoassets to a trading platform;
- the licensing and supervision of crypto-asset service providers and issuers of asset-related tokens and electronic money;
- the operation, organization and management of cryptoasset issuers and service providers;
- the protection of holders of cryptoassets and customers of service providers;
- measures to prevent insider trading, illegal disclosure of inside information and market manipulation.
