After more than two years of collaboration, innovation and shared commitment to strengthening Europe's security data ecosystem, the TESSERA project officially came to a close with its Final Event, held on 26 June 2026 at the Centre for Security Studies (KEMEA) in Athens, Greece. Bringing together project partners, representatives of the European Commission, researchers, policymakers and experts from across Europe, the event celebrated the project's achievements while looking ahead to the future of secure and trusted data sharing for security innovation.
Held under the theme "Laying the Foundations for the European Security Data Space for Innovation," the event served not only as the project's concluding conference but also as an opportunity to reflect on the progress made throughout TESSERA's lifetime. From its ambitious vision to its results, the project has worked to address one of the key challenges facing the European security community: enabling the secure, ethical and interoperable sharing of data to support research, innovation and operational cooperation.
The programme featured presentations showcasing TESSERA's main achievements, including its work on security-oriented use cases, dataset mapping and standardisation, data quality assessment, regulatory compliance, and trust-building mechanisms for data sharing. These sessions highlighted the multidisciplinary approach that has defined the project, bringing together technical expertise, legal perspectives and operational needs to create practical foundations for a future European Security Data Space.
A lively panel discussion explored the challenges of dataset quality and regulatory compliance, while experts shared valuable insights into balancing innovation with the legal and ethical requirements governing security data. The afternoon sessions further reinforced the collaborative spirit of the European research community, welcoming representatives from sister projects including LAGO, TITAN, SIESTA, ARIEN and DETECTOR. Their contributions demonstrated how complementary initiatives are collectively advancing secure data sharing technologies and shaping the next generation of European security solutions.
The event concluded with closing remarks and an open discussion, offering participants the opportunity to reflect on the project's achievements and the future of the European Security Data Space. A networking reception provided a final opportunity for consortium members, stakeholders, and invited guests to exchange ideas and strengthen cooperation beyond the lifetime of the project.
Although TESSERA has officially reached its conclusion, its impact extends well beyond the project's lifetime. The knowledge generated, methodologies developed and partnerships established will continue to support future initiatives working towards a trusted, interoperable and innovation-driven European Security Data Space. As the project closes this chapter, it leaves behind not only valuable technical results but also a strong collaborative network ready to build on its foundations.
