The 2026 Victim Support Europe Annual Conference, hosted by Victim Support Europe in collaboration with France Victimes in Paris, brought together an inspiring community of professionals dedicated to protecting and advancing victims' rights across Europe and beyond.
Over the course of two days, representatives of victim support organisations, legal professionals, policymakers, public authorities, police services, and researchers from across Europe, as well as experts from New Zealand, the United States, and Asia, came together to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges, and explore practical solutions for building stronger and more sustainable victim support systems.
As a member of the Victim Support Europe network, the Law and Internet Foundation was pleased to take part in these important conversations and learn from the remarkable work being carried out by colleagues across different countries and sectors.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the organisation and delivery of victim support services, referral mechanisms, inter-institutional cooperation, and the implementation of the revised Victims' Rights Directive. A recurring message throughout the conference was the importance of ensuring that victims are not only informed about their rights but are actively heard, involved, and supported throughout the entire process.
Another important theme was the growing role of technology and digitalisation in victim support services. Participants explored both the opportunities and challenges associated with digital tools, highlighting the need to ensure that innovation enhances accessibility and support while maintaining a victim-centred approach.
This year's theme, "The Frontliners: Functional, Funded, Future-Ready", served as a timely reminder that protecting victims' rights requires more than strong legislation. It depends on resilient organisations, effective cooperation, sustainable funding, and the dedication of professionals who work every day to support victims and help them navigate difficult circumstances.
Thank you to Victim Support Europe and France Victimes for creating a space for meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and learning. We leave Paris with new insights, valuable connections, and renewed motivation to contribute to strengthening victims' rights and support services across Europe.
