The University of Vienna is a public research university, one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe: around 10,400 employees work at 20 faculties and centres, including around 7,500 scientists. This makes the University of Vienna the largest research institution in Austria and the largest educational establishment: around 88,900 national and international students are currently enrolled at the University of Vienna. With 184 regular courses, it has the most diverse range of courses in the country. It is associated with 21 Nobel prize winners and has been the academic home to many scholars of historical as well as of academic importance.
