This past June, Polina Petrova, a legal expert at the Law & Internet Foundation (LIF), completed all six modules of a course on ‘Data Monetisation Strategy: Creating Value Through Data’, organized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), with the highest possible score.

The curriculum has been concentrated on the following majors:

  • Module 1 “Data Monetization: Converting Data Into Financial Value”, which has explored the process through which organisations create financial value from data;
  • Module 2 “Data Monetization Capabilities: Building Enterprise Data Foundations", which has led to the discovery of five data monetisation capabilities and organisational structures that maximise their impact;
  • Module 3 “Improving: Generating Value Through Data-Driven Process Optimization”, which has explored how to create value from data-driven process improvements;
  • Module 4" Wrapping: Creating Value from Analytics Features and Experiences", which has studied how to create value from analytics product features and analytics-based customer experiences;
  • Module 5: "Selling: Generating Value from Information Solutions", which has explored how to create value from information solutions; as well as,
  • Module 6 “Data Monetization Strategy: Choosing a Plan for Organization-Wide Value Creation”, which has researched the process of selecting and managing a firm-level strategy for an organisation’s data monetisation activities.

Completing the course helped Polina to gain even more in-depth knowledge on key topics that will be used to contribute meaningfully to the DATAMITE project. In this way, the experience and expertise gained will enrich the overall contribution that the Foundation has within ongoing and future projects related to data exchange and trade, allowing for an even larger multidisciplinary approach.
