Law and Internet Foundation (LIF) had the privilege to contribute towards the conduction of two workshop sessions of the European Anti-Cybercrime Technology Development Association (EACTDA) in June – the first one took place on June 4&5 in Brussels, and the second one on June 11-12 in Amsterdam. The aim of the meetings was to focus on business level discussions amongst stakeholders concerning the Tools4LEAs project, thereby subsequently leading to the translation into legal aspects, on behalf of LIF.
Whilst the overall purpose of the Association is to facilitate the uptake of innovative technological solutions by European public entities fighting cyber-crime so that they can build a safer Europe, the workshop session concerned the Tools4LEAs project, in particular, which is focused on delivering fully-tested and validated software tools/solutions to European public security entities to help them fight cybercrime. The project is funded by the European Commission under the Internal Security Fund Police (ISFP) programme (Grant Agreement: 101136295).
Other organisations that took part in the workshop meetings include: EUROPOL; French Ministry of Interior; Dutch Police; CFLW Cyber Strategies; Byron Labs; EACTDA; CEA; VICOMTECH; TNO, as well as Netcompany-Intrasoft.
During the two workshops, LIF was represented by two of its Legal Experts – Polina Petrova and Konstantin Kostadinov. The two now have the responsibility to finalise the legal strategy, concentrating particularly on the licensing scheme and the intellectual property aspects related thereby.
