An ordinary Tuesday turned into an extraordinary day as it was dedicated to a specialised training on one of the most challenging topics in contemporary criminal law, namely cross-border cooperation in interception of telecommunications and the application of the European Investigation Order (EIO).
More than 20 prosecutors, judges, investigators and lawyers from various institutions in Blagoevgrad and the region were welcomed by the Executive Director of the Law and Internet Foundation, Prof. Dr. Daniela Ilieva, on the 3rd of February 2026, in the city of Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.
The participants exchanged valuable experience and perspectives on issues related to international cooperation and the effectiveness of investigations in a digital environment, as well as the challenges they face in the constantly evolving world of artificial intelligence and technology.
How is the protection of fundamental rights ensured when intercepting telecommunications? What specific issues arise when dealing with mass data collection?
These are just some of the questions raised by the organising team (Rada, Sofiya and Mina) and discussed by the trainers - prosecutor Tsvetomir Yosifov and judge Marieta Nedelcheva. The two speakers presented both the regulatory framework and real-life examples from their professional practice.
The training was organised by the Law and Internet Foundation as part of the INCEPT Project, funded by the Justice Programme of the European Commission, and aimed at strengthening the expert capacity of law enforcement authorities in cross-border investigations.
The Law and Internet Foundation continues to work toward fostering professional dialogue, sharing good practices, and improving the application of European cooperation instruments in criminal justice.
We would like to thank our host, Hotel Orbita, for the professional service!
We would also like to thank all participants for the fruitful discussion and for their contribution to the successful implementation of the project!
