National seminar on "Promoting the use of alternative measures to pre-trial detention in criminal procedure"
Law and Internet Foundation organizes a National Seminar on "Promoting Alternative Measures to Pre-trial Detention in the Criminal Procedure".
As part of the activities carried out by our team, we are organizing a national seminar with particular emphasis on the legal perspective of the (excessive) use of pre-trial detention, which will be held on 30.01.2024 at the Attorney's training center "Krustyu Tsonchev" (Sofia, 8 Tsar Kaloyan Street, floor 4).
The seminar is organised in the framework of the RELEASE project, which focuses on assisting the judiciary (including judges, prosecutors, investigators, lawyers and other legal practitioners) in EU Member States, particularly those in Eastern Europe, to strengthen cooperation between competent authorities on the issue of custody and to facilitate the establishment of a common approach in this area.
The project consortium consists of 5 partners from five different EU Member States - Bulgaria, Poland, Greece, Slovakia and Croatia. The project will produce a handbook of good practices and practical alternatives, as well as an overview of policies. It will in turn aim to raise policy makers' awareness of the problems associated with pre-trial detention and possible alternatives to address them. The material will be presented at the final RELEASE conference which will help to establish effective cooperation between the target groups and disseminate the results of the project.
The RELEASE project is coordinated by Law and Internet Foundation and is supported by the 'Justice' programme (2021-2027) of the European Commission under Grant Agreement No. 101090815.
