On 19 February, the Law and Internet Foundation took part in an important discussion organised by the Counterintuitive Institute, focusing on the “invisible data” surrounding cases of cyber and technology-facilitated gender-based violence - a topic that is often overlooked, while proving such cases remains a major challenge for survivors.

The discussion was held in partnership with the Bulgarian Fund for Women, Demetra Association, and the HiD Perspectives Foundation. During the event, the Invisible Data project partners presented collected data on the manifestations of gender-based cyberviolence and shared key findings on the challenges related to identifying, documenting, and providing evidence in such cases. The conversation also addressed the difficulties in transposing Directive (EU) 2024/1385 on combating violence against women and domestic violence, which explicitly recognises different forms of gender-based cyberviolence.

At the Law and Internet Foundation, we believe that preventing and addressing online violence requires sustained and coordinated efforts, especially when it comes to protecting children, girls, and young women. We are actively working to raise awareness, develop effective protection mechanisms, and contribute to building a safer digital environment.
