The first private demo of the COPKIT tools took place in Athens, Greece, on 12-14 November 2019 at the premises of our partner KEMEA.

The aim of the event was to illustrate the different features and functionalities of the COPKIT tools developed so far to the consortium in general, but to the Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and members of the advisory boards in particular.

COPKIT is developing data-driven policing technologies to support LEAs in preventing, investigating and mitigating crime and terrorism. Our approach favours technologies that can incorporate domain knowledge in order to be tuned according to the LEA needs and to provide an improved performance compared to the available state-of-the-art technologies.

During the first two days of the event, the technical manager of the project presented an overview of the different tools and, subsequently, each of the technical partners responsible for the development of specific components gave a detailed presentation and a live demonstration of each.

The third and last day was dedicated to a workshop to explore and discuss the features of COPKIT’s HMI (Human Machine Interface). Once completed, this HMI, as part of COPKIT’s Early Warning/Early Action technological system, will support the analysts’ daily task workflows on both a strategical and case level.

The LEAs who were present are partners in the consortium but also the main end-users of the project. For this reason, they were asked to provide their feedback during discussion sessions that took place at the meeting and to fill in a number of questionnaires, in order to lay the grounds for the further development of the COPKIT tools.

A representative from Europol and one from the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights also participated in the event as members of the COPKIT End User and Stakeholder Advisory Board and the Ethical and Societal Impact Advisory Board. Their presence has been valuable to the technical team as they provided their feedback, from an end-user perspective and on legal and ethical issues, respectively.

The second and third private demos of the project tool will take place in Madrid, Spain in May 2020 and in Brussels, Belgium, in November 2020, followed by a final and public demonstration during the project final conference.
