Description

The Third DATAMITE Plenary Meeting took place last week, between 21st and 22nd November 2023. The event was hosted by CINECA (the largest computing center in Italy) in Bologna, where partners met for a thorough discussion on the progress being made thus far, as well as to consider further steps to be taken.

During day one, two parallel sessions took place, namely “Mechanisms and Data Sovereignty”, led by International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), University College Cork (UCC) and the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), and on the other hand, “Beyond Sharing: A Business & Quality Approach to foster the European Data Economy”, which was led by 1001LAKES and Law and Internet Foundation (LIF). The workshop led by LIF concentrated on legislation overview, as well as on an interactive session concerning examples from practice related to Data Sharing & Trading.

The Pilots’ architecture session was then led by Instituto Tecnológico de Informática (ITI) and Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PSNC). The session aimed at presenting the architectural concept of each pilot by mapping the core components / functionalities covered. The last part of day one was then preoccupied with: a session on Data Governance, Quality, Security and Support Modules, led by ITI; Outreach, Exploitation and Collaboration, led by OTE and AUSTRALO; as well as on Front End, Open Source and WP5 Integration, Demonstration, and Validation, the latter being led by Eclipse, PSNC and ITI.

After having presented the status of each Work Package during day two, the second day ended with a review of the architectural view of the pilots. 3 Use Cases test the operability and success of DATAMITE’s modular, open source and multi-domain framework, and the former are envisioned into two main directions how data is treated and how data is shared, thereby leading to the 6 Pilots of the DATAMITE Project.

The forum has also served as a place to officially announce the Fourth DATAMITE Plenary Meeting, which is going to take place at the premises of PSNC Future Labs, in Poznan, Poland, in May 2024.
